We report with heavy hearts that our Girl Scout Council's 2005 cookie sale is down 7.2 percent, representing $1.3 million in lost revenue. This year's initial cookie sale results will have a negative impact upon each and every troop's ability to implement its planned activities. And, the lost revenue to the council will further impact the Girl Scout experience in a negative way.
Other councils throughout the country have experienced similar downturns and are busy taking steps to increase their sales. Swift and bold action to bolster our cookie sale must be taken now to minimize the impact on both the troop and council levels.
We know from previous years that our customers still want our delicious cookies. Sometimes we simply haven't contacted them yet. There is still time left. We are counting on each of you to help improve our cookie sale by implementing some or all of the following actions:
--Continue to use the Catch-up Order Form to contact as many customers as possible. --Plan to hold at least one additional booth sale beyond those you have already scheduled. --Think of somewhere you and the girls could visit with cookies in hand and sell directly to the people there. Some possible locations could be a local business, retirement home, office complex, college campus, government office or local utility. Be creative, but be sure to get permission in advance. --Order additional cookies to help your troop reach the 60 or 85 case level, where troop proceeds increase dramatically.
Additional cookies will be available at all of our cookie warehouses from March 8-18. Troops should contact their service unit cookie manager to order extra cookies.
As your partner in this special endeavor, your council will acknowledge the extra efforts of those troops who increase substantially their initial cookie order.
Troops increasing their initial order by 10 percent will receive a $25 credit redeemable for merchandise in the Badge & Sash Girl Scout store. And, those troops really going the extra mile and increasing by 20 percent will receive a $50 credit.
